Mom arrested after leaving baby alone in car

Duluth Police arrested a woman Monday for leaving her toddler alone in the car while shopping at the Walmart on Pleasant Hill Road.

A customer at the store noticed the 14-month-old boy crying in the backseat and called police.

“We were out here for about 20 to 30 minutes and the vehicle was cool to the touch. So, she was (inside) maybe 15 more minutes before we got here,” Office Ted Sadowski tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.

He says Dibo Walashey told officers she was only inside the store a minute. She was charged with reckless conduct.

The baby’s father arrived on scene and took custody of the child. The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services is investigating.

Sadowski says even though conditions inside the car weren’t hot or freezing, it’s still against the law to leave a child that young unattended in a vehicle.

“Just take your baby inside. There’s plenty of carts supplied with baby seats in them,” he says.
