FANNIN COUNTY, GA — A missing Cobb County man whose disappearance triggered emergency alerts over the weekend has been found safe.

Fannin County officials say James Hammond was located Monday evening sitting along the side of a road, not far from where he was originally reported missing.

Fannin County EMA Director Robert Pool said Hammond disappeared late Friday night after getting out of the vehicle he had been riding in with his wife.

“Around 11:30pm this past Friday night, they stopped on the side of the road, he exited the vehicle and left on foot,” Pool said.

The people who found Hammond recognized him from information that had been released to the public. Hammond told them he had been in the woods for approximately four days and had just made his way out.

They picked Hammond up, contacted authorities and took him to a Chick-fil-A in Blairsville.

An EMS crew then transported Hammond to a local hospital for evaluation. He was listed in stable condition.
