DEKALB COUNTY, GA — Voters in DeKalb County have overwhelmingly approved renewing a one-cent sales tax that helps fund school improvements, with 81% voting in favor of extending the tax for another five years.
The tax is expected to generate more than $925 million by 2032, providing funding for school renovations, new buildings and upgrades to technology and security.
The revenue supports schools in DeKalb County, Decatur and portions of Atlanta.
DeKalb County School District plans to use some of the funding to modernize Druid Hills High School.
Other projects under consideration include a possible expansion of Clarkston High School and the modernization of a middle school to support Cross Keys High School.
Because voters approved an extension of an existing tax rather than a new one, the sales tax rate will remain unchanged.
The renewed tax will continue providing funding for school improvement projects over the next five years.
