Metro Atlanta nonprofit hopes to find homes for more than 300 children

UNION CITY, GA — A South Fulton County nonprofit is hosting an event Saturday for people interested in fostering or adopting children and teenagers in Georgia.

Christian City works under a special contract with the state of Georgia to help find permanent homes for children in foster care.

“We are tasked to facilitate adoptions for youth who are in sibling groups of three or more. Teens and kiddos who have specialized needs,” said Maati Horne, Christian City’s director of foster care and adoptions.

Horne said more than 300 children in metro Atlanta are currently looking for permanent homes.

“This is really a unique population that we’re trying to find forever families for, and so we’re really excited about the opportunity,” Horne said.

Horne said one goal of the event is to connect children with potential adoptive families while also raising awareness about adoption in Georgia.

“One, to get some potential adoptive placements for our kiddos, and two, really just to kind of get the word out and bring awareness to adoptions for our kids that are in the state of Georgia,” Horne said.

The organization is also focused on finding homes that can keep siblings together.

“The goal is to really keep siblings together. Research has shown that the sibling bond is one of the biggest bonds that folks will ever have,” Horne said.

Christian City will also provide information about other ways people can help children in foster care.

The adoption information event will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Christian City, located at 7347 Red Oak Road in Union City.
