Massive piece of Atlanta airport terminal set to be moved

Concourse D Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is marking a major milestone in its Concourse D expansion project.

ATLANTA — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is preparing for another major move as work continues on its Concourse D widening project.

Airport officials say the 11th module for the project will be moved overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

The 217-foot-long structure weighs more than 1,000 tons and will travel about 1.25 miles from the airport’s modular construction yard to Concourse D. Crews will eventually integrate the module into the existing building.

The Department of Aviation says construction activity on the project is nearing $1 million worth of work each day.

Airport officials say the Concourse D widening project is expected to be completed by fall 2027.
