Man shot in head during workplace shooting near Atlanta airport

Police investigation at Royal Food Service warehouse

ATLANTA — A man is facing murder and armed robbery charges after a deadly workplace shooting near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Atlanta police identified the suspect as Stephen Malone, who is accused of shooting and killing a man early Thursday at the Royal Food Service building on Zip Industrial Boulevard.

Officers responded to the building around 1:29 a.m. and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

Atlanta police obtained a description of the suspect and his vehicle and issued a citywide lookout.

Lawrenceville police were notified that the suspect may have been traveling to their city and began searching for him.

Using Flock technology, Lawrenceville officers identified the area where the vehicle was traveling. Officers located the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and took Malone into custody without incident.

Atlanta homicide investigators later charged Malone with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a felony, armed robbery and theft by taking.

Malone will be transported to the Fulton County Jail.

Atlanta police say the investigation remains active.
