GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A man faces charges after being accused in a hit-and-run crash that left one pedestrian dead and another seriously injured in metro Atlanta.

Gwinnett County Police say two pedestrians were working on a car that broke down in the center turn lane just before 4 a.m. on Sunday.

Gwinnett County Police officials said the pedestrians were struck by a beige Honda Odyssey traveling east on Killian Hill Road.

Officials say 41-year-old Salvador Vargas-Pablo died at the scene.

The second pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries. The identity of the second pedestrian was not released.

“Investigators expanded a search of Flock Safety camera data and identified the suspect vehicle using a distinctive sticker visible on the rear window,” Gwinnett Count Police said. “Investigators subsequently identified the vehicle’s registered owner as Trudon Kassansa and located him in Lilburn.”

Kassansa faces multiple charges, including Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree, Serious Injury by Vehicle, two counts of Hit and Run Resulting in Serious Injury or Death, and Operating A Vehicle Without Two Functioning Headlights, police officials said.
