BUTTS COUNTY, GA — A man accused of making a death threat against Georgia Congressman Mike Collins was arrested and faces charges after a multi-state investigation.

The Butts County Sheriff’s Office started an investigation after receiving information of a death threat made on Instagram against Collins and his son-in-law.

Gary Long with the Butts County Sheriff’s Office says Anthony Bennett, a former resident of Hampton, was arrested near Buffalo.

During the investigation, officials say Bennett admitted to sending the message.

Investigators say the threat was connected to information in an online story that was not accurate or true. Collins is currently running against Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff.

“I understand politics. I understand disagreements. But there is a line that cannot be crossed,” Long said said. “Threatening to kill a public official or his family is not politics — it is a criminal act, and we will take it seriously and hold those responsible accountable just as we did in this case”.

Bennett is now in custody. He faces with two counts of felony terroristic threats.
