ATLANTA — North Point Ministries is preparing for a leadership transition after senior pastor Andy Stanley announced plans to step down from his leadership roles next year.
Stanley made the announcement during Sunday services. He plans to step down as lead pastor of North Point Community Church, as senior pastor and point leader of North Point Ministries, which operates eight campuses across metro Atlanta.
“It’s the right decision, it’s the right time, and we’re moving in an amazing direction,” Stanley said.
Stanley described the transition as both an organizational and personal decision, saying he looks forward to spending more time with his grandchildren.
“I want to be able to say yes to my grandchildren without having to check my schedule,” Stanley said.
Although he is stepping away from his leadership positions, Stanley said he does not plan to leave the ministry and intends to continue preaching at North Point churches.
Stanley has recommended Joel Thomas, the ministry’s executive director, as his successor.
Church members will vote on Thomas, with the results expected to be announced November 1.
Stanley is the son of the late pastor Dr. Charles Stanley.
