COBB COUNTY, GA — Despite objections from the Cobb County Zoning Board, Cobb County Commissioners approved a proposed mixed-use development off a popular metro Atlanta road on Wednesday.

Cobb County leaders voted 3-2 in favor of the proposed mixed-use development to be built on Atlanta Road.

According to Cobb County Commission Chairwoman Lisa Cupid, it is important for the future of the area.

“If we wait for progress to see transformation, we will not see transformation,” Cupid said.

Opponents argued that the property’s close proximity to heavy industrial sites present serious health and safety concerns.

Commissioner Rick Allen, who is a representative of the area, says it is time to change the property’s zoning.

“I do not want more industrial or heavy industrial in that area,” said Allen.
