ATLANTA — An investigation is underway after a man believed to be in his early 40s was found dead at a park in Atlanta on Wednesday morning.

Officers conducting a directed patrol in the area of 1955 Compton Dr. SE around 9 a.m. discovered a man who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound.

Responding medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene, according to Atlanta police officials. The identity of the victim was not released.

Investigators with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Atlanta Police Lt. Christapher Butler said no one is in custody at this time, however, police believe this involved someone who knew the victim.
