Hemy Neuman's attorneys have started presenting his insanity defense. WSB's Jon Lewis is in the courtroom and has been following all of the drama that unfolds.

Hemy Neuman told a psychiatrist who examined him about his relationship with Andrea Sneidman and came across as a very confused man.

Dr. Peter Thomas testified Neuman told him that, when he and Andrea were in Colorado, they slept together, but did not have sex.  Then, on a trip to Greenville, South Carolina, Neuman told Thomas, that he and Andrea "had intercourse.  Or at least I think we did.". Thomas says this shows that Neuman was deeply confused and had difficulty understanding what was reality and what was fantasy.

Hemy Neuman fantasized about Andrea Sneiderman to the point of obsession, so says one psychiatrist who evaluated him.

Dr. Julie Rand Dorney says Neuman said he was on a "Mission by God," and saw himself as King David and Sneiderman as Bathsheba.

Dorney also says Neuman was more concerned about what Andrea Sneiderman would think about him than he was about the police or about the consequences of his actions.

A psychiatrist has testified to Hemy Neuman's mental state following the murder of Rusty Sneiderman.  Dr. Julie Rand Dorney was one of the doctors who evaluated Neuman following his arrest.

She says Neuman showed signs of"paranoia, depression, social isolation, confusion and magical thinking, which could mean psychosis."

She also says Neuman spoke, at length, about his relationship with Andrea Sneiderman.  She says his feelings for her became obsessive, and he had difficulty separating fantasy from reality.

As for whether Neuman was faking mental illness, Dr. Dorney says he did exhibit signs of mental illness.  She says Neuman did mention demons during one of his evaluations, but she believes those demons were not the result of delusions, but, rather, obsessive thoughts.

Dramatic statements in the Hemy Neuman murder trial.  But Rhenish will not be hearing them.

Shayna Citron is the woman who was hugged in court by Andrea Sneiderman last week.  It was what happened following that hug that was the focus of a hearing in court.

Citron told defense attorneys that she sat on a bench on the courthouse hallway with Sneiderman immediately following her testimony and the hug.  While they were sitting, Andrea told Citro, "because of what you said, you are no longer you're my friend.". Citron replied, "I had to tell the truth," to which Andrea said, "well then, I've got to do what I've got to do."

Citron says she took that comment as a veiled threat, to the point where she contacted her attorney and called her children's school to warn them about Andrea Sneiderman.

Defense Attorney Doug Peters wants Citron to tell her story to the jury, telling Judge Gregory Adams, "Our case hinges on two things: that Hemy Neuman is sick.  And that he was manipulated by Andrea Sneiderman.  What she did to Shayna Citron is a perfect example of that manipulation by Andrea Sneiderman."

Peters told the judge that "the defense, the prosecution and the jury are all heading down the same road.  We three share a common bond.  And that bond is that Andrea Sneiderman is playing each and every one of us for a fool."

Prosecutors did not want Citron to testify, saying anything Andrea Sneiderman told her was hearsay, and that the comments were not pertinent to the Neuman trial.

Judge Adams granted the state's request and will not allow Citron to testify in front of the jury.  But she will take the stand later today outside of the jury's presence to get her statements on the record.

During their case, the prosecution laid the foundation to disprove any claims of insanity by asking co-workers of Neuman's from General Electric if he had shown any signs of erratic behavior or delusions.  In every case, they said no.

EARLIER....

On Tuesday, an FBI agent testifies that Hemy Neuman used his iPad to conduct various searches related to the killing of Rusty Sneiderman.

Neuman first searched the term divorce in July of 2010.  A month before the murder, he googled "gun" and weeks later searched for "gun range.". Five days before the killing, Neuman searched for "costumes" and also for "home sales.".  On that last, Neuman searched in December, after the killing, for the values of his home and the value of the Sneiderman home.

Agent David Freyman also restored that Neuman did Google map searches of Dunwoody Prep and the area around the school.

Another search was for Georgia law on confidentiality between a psychiatrist and a patient, searched for after the murder.

On January 3, 2011, Neuman searched the Internet for "suicide."

On December 26, 2010 Neuman searched for the question, "Can police trace cell phones?"

Jurors began their day at the DeKalb County Courthouse watching the last seven minutes of the video of Hemy Neuman's interrogation by the Dunwoody police.  Technical difficulties yesterday postponed that viewing until this morning. 

Following that, it was back to evidence, where the Andrea Sneiderman once again became the focus.

Also taking the stand today. Dunwood Police Lieutenant David Barnes.  During cross-examination, Neuman's attorney Robert Rubin asked Barnes about a statement that Neuman made the day after he was arrested.
Rubin asked, "He said, I know she feels responsible.  I want to get this over, so people can get on with their miserable lives. Correct?"  

"Yes," replied Barnes.

A day after his arrest, as police were driving Hemy Neuman to the court for his first appearance, he seemed to admit to the cops that he shot Rusty Sneiderman.

Rubin, quoting Neuman, said, "I wanna talk.  I want to end the circus.  There's no reason for anyone else to be hurt."

Again Barnes replied, "Yes."

Rubin is laying the groundwork that Andrea Sneiderman manipulated Neuman to the point of insanity.  Barnes testified Sneiderman kept stringing Newman along and that he never knew she stood to gain two million dollars by her husband death.

Two FBI agents are on the witness list and are expected to testify today.
