DEKALB COUNTY, GA — Lakeside High School is increasing security after some parents raised concerns about images circulating online.
In a letter sent to Lakeside parents, the school said the images were originally discovered in a girls’ bathroom about two weeks ago and were shared on social media this week.
The school shared the following letter with Lakeside High School families and the community:
Dear Lakeside High School Families and Community,
At Lakeside High School, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We understand that recent discussions and concerns circulating within our school community have generated questions, and we would like to provide information regarding our safety procedures, current security measures, and important school updates.
When any safety or security concern is brought to our attention, Lakeside High School follows the standard operating procedures outlined by the DeKalb County School District Emergency Protocols. These procedures require school administrators to immediately assess the concern, contact our School Resource Officers (SROs), and conduct a thorough investigation. Depending on the nature of the concern, district personnel and law enforcement partners may also be involved to ensure all appropriate actions are taken.
This week, we have received several emails and phone calls regarding images currently circulating on social media. We want to clarify that these images were originally discovered approximately two weeks ago in a girls’ restroom. At that time, the matter was immediately addressed, and an investigation was initiated. To our knowledge, the images were not shared on social media until this week. Our School Resource Officers continue to work closely with school administration as part of the ongoing investigation. Because the investigation remains active, there are limitations on the information that can be shared publicly.
We appreciate the vigilance of our students, families, and staff in reporting concerns. Even when there is uncertainty about whether a situation has already been reported, we would much rather have students and families bring a potential safety concern to our attention. Maintaining a safe school environment is a shared responsibility, and the willingness of our students, families, staff members, and School Resource Officers to communicate and support one another is an important part of that effort.
As we approach Fall Break, additional security measures are being implemented throughout our campus. It is standard practice to increase security monitoring and visibility before extended school breaks, and we will continue to maintain an increased security presence to help ensure a safe learning environment for all students and staff.
