ATLANTA — Health officials have found that Prostate cancer is becoming more common in the state of Georgia.

Dr. Anthony D’Amico with the American Cancer Society says while that may not sound like a lot, it could be the difference between life and death.

“The prostate cancer incidents, that’s the number of cases, have gone up by about three percent,” D’Amico said.

It’s recommended that all men get a PSA test to screen for prostate cancer starting at the age of 50.

The American Cancer Society previously said that prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer other than skin cancer in men in the U.S.

Health officials add that African American, Hispanic or Latino men should start screenings at age 40.

In Georgia, officials say an estimated 11,400 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 1,100 will die from it.
