Gwinnett co-op offers help to those taking in evacuees

The Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry is offering pantry items for those in its service area who’ve taken in evacuees from Hurricane Florence.

“When Katrina happened, we had a lot of folks that were hosting family members that were coming in from out of town that were fleeing the hurricane. So, we wanted to make sure that they didn’t have to worry about food,” says Executive Director Laura Drake.

The co-op is one of six in Gwinnett County and serves 500-600 families a month from Snellville, Grayson, and Loganville.

After Drake put the word out on social media, she tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish she began to worry they wouldn’t have enough food. But on Friday morning, donations of food came pouring in by the buggy-load.

She believes they will have plenty should the need arise.

“Come and we’ll give you some extra supplies. We may not be able to fill your pantry, but we want to be able to help you,” says Drake.

The co-op is open Mondays from 3pm-7pm and Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-2pm.
