ATLANTA — More than a million Georgians have already cast their ballots in the midterm elections, but some voters are raising concerns about security and transparency ahead of Election Day.
With in-person early voting ending Friday, Oct. 30, residents across metro Atlanta are making time to vote before Election Day on Nov. 3.
Vote Safe and polling volunteer Karima Harrison says scheduling remains a challenge for some voters, despite the high early voting turnout.
“Even though we have a ton of early voters, this is Atlanta; a lot of people are going to wait until the last moment,” Harrison said.
Harrison has already cast her ballot to avoid the crowds but expressed concerns about what could happen on Election Day.
“I feel like there might be a lot of possible chaos or pandemonium,” Harrison said.
Atlanta resident Elka Davidson also voted early, citing her work schedule and concerns about Election Day security.
“It may come to nothing, but it makes me nervous enough that I want to make sure my vote is secure before the day,” Davidson said.
Despite those concerns, Harrison is encouraging Georgians to participate in the election, whether they vote early or on Election Day.
“I think people really are wanting to go towards being a participant in democracy, and voting is obviously one of the best local ways that you can do that,” Harrison said.
Meanwhile, the economy remains a major issue for voters nationwide as Americans continue to face higher prices for everyday necessities.
According to Moody’s Analytics, the same goods and services now cost the typical American family more than $250 extra per month compared to a year ago.
“With gas at the price it is, and groceries, people are just trying to take care of their families,” one voter said.
Another voter expressed a different perspective on rising costs.
“I’m willing to pay more if it’s going to solve issues around the country,” the voter said.
Republican candidates are also facing challenges in parts of the country where tariffs and higher gasoline and diesel prices have affected consumers.
The latest ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll shows more Americans trust Democrats than Republicans to do a better job handling the economy.
Georgia voters have until Friday, Oct. 30, to cast their ballots early in person before Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
