More than $43 million in federal grants is set to be distributed to 21 organizations across Georgia to help veterans who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes.

Officials say the grants are a part of a record $1.17 billion the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is awarding to 680 organizations nationwide.

The money will support programs that help veterans avoid losing their homes, find housing and move out of homelessness.

“VA medical centers across Georgia remain committed to ensuring Veterans have access to safe, stable housing and the supportive services they need to thrive,” said Dr. Connie Hampton, Acting Director of Atlanta VA Health Care System. “These grants strengthen our partnerships with community organizations and help us reach Veterans where they are, providing resources that make a meaningful difference in their lives.”

Officials say some of the grants will also support transitional housing and other services for veterans, including specialized housing for women veterans and those who are elderly, chronically ill or caring for children.

The VA says it helped 51,936 homeless veterans secure housing in fiscal year 2025.

The grants are scheduled to begin Oct. 1 as part of the VA’s fiscal year 2027 funding.
