JEFFERSON, GA — A Georgia police department is warning parents about a viral AI trend that is raising school safety concerns.

The “Cat in the Hat” trend uses images and clips from the 2003 live-action “Cat in the Hat” movie along with threatening or creepy messages. Some posts also include manipulated audio.

Jefferson police became aware of the trend after a now-deleted AI-generated video mentioned that the Cat in the Hat was coming to Jefferson.

Police said the post did not mention a specific location, date or time, and no physical threat was made.

Authorities are investigating where the video originated.

Jefferson police are urging parents to talk with their children about not participating in the trend.

Students who see one of the posts are also being encouraged to alert their school resource officer.
