Georgia congressman says Biden ‘failed’ American people during State of the Union

President Joe Biden delivered his second State of the Union address Tuesday in front of a divided Congress, with a new Republican majority in the House.

On Wednesday, Georgia Congressman Barry Loudermilk joined Atlanta’s Morning News to weigh in on the President’s remarks.

“I think he let the American people down tremendously last night,” Loudermilk told 95.5 WSB’s Judd Hickinbotham. Listen to the FULL interview below.

Loudermilk added, “The nation is struggling right now.” The congressman said that “with the world stage,” Biden had an opportunity to address each one of those struggles “but he failed to do so.”

Specifically citing the nation’s debt limit, he said, “It’s really going to be on the shoulders of the White House.”

Loudermilk underscored that the majority of Republicans he works alongside do not want to cut Medicare or Medicaid. “We can’t have seniors pay for the ills of bad spending in the past.”

He added, “And we have to stop the reckless spending that’s been going on for the past few decades.

“The debt is a national security crisis at this point.”

During his 73-minute speech, Biden “sought to portray a nation dramatically improved from the one he took charge of two years ago,” The Associated Press reports.

“Folks, the story of America is a story of progress and resilience. Of always moving forward. Of never, ever, giving up,” Biden said. “It’s a story unique among all nations. We’re the only country that has emerged from every crisis we’ve ever entered stronger than when we got into it.”

“We’re not finished yet by any stretch of the imagination,” he declared. Read more from The AP here.
