At all but one of Georgia’s public universities, tuition rates will reportedly remain the same next school year.

On Tuesday, The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports the Georgia Board of Regents voted to “keep undergraduate and graduate tuition steady at 25 of the 26 schools within the University System of Georgia.”

The AJC’s Vanessa McCray adds that only Middle Georgia State University will see a tuition hike of $19 per hour for in-state undergraduate students and $66 per hour for out-of-state students beginning fall 2023.

At other Georgia public universities, tuition rates will remain unchanged.

For Georgia Tech students, that’s $5,129 per semester, McCray writes. At the University of Georgia, it’s $4,895.

On Atlanta’s Morning News Tuesday, WSB’s Michelle Wright reported that officials were considering a tuition hike, among several options, to help fill a budget hole created by state lawmakers who unexpectedly cut funding for the next fiscal year.

The Georgia Board of Regents agenda showed it would take up fiscal year 2024 tuition, fees, and allocations during a meeting Tuesday morning.

Board members typically make tuition decisions at their April meeting but decided to wait until May to consider potential tuition and fee increases for Georgia’s 26 system schools.
