COBB COUNTY, GA — Another major shutdown is planned this weekend for a stretch of Interstate 285 as the Georgia Department of Transportation continues work on a major improvement project.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, all lanes in both directions of I-285 between South Atlanta Road and Paces Ferry Road will be closed. The roadway is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

GDOT says the closure is necessary so crews have enough space to repair and replace major sections of the roadway as part of the $155 million Westside Perimeter improvement project.

Crews will also repair aging concrete, shoulder lanes and signage during the weekend closure.

Drivers traveling through northwest Atlanta and parts of Cobb County should expect detours and significant traffic delays throughout the weekend.

Stay with 95.5 WSB throughout the weekend for around-the-clock traffic updates on the I-285 closure.
