Former Falcons player says he was defending himself when he shot at a car with a mother and children

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Former Atlanta Falcons player William Moore was granted a $1,000,000 bond Wednesday after his arrest last month for allegedly opening fire on a car with a woman and two small children inside.

The 37-year-old former defensive standout is accused of firing a shot into a car at Alexander Park in Lawrenceville on April 23.

The victim told Gwinnett County police that Moore became upset when his daughter told him that the victim’s niece had hit her. Moore allegedly followed the woman to her car and fired the shot when she backed into his car. The victim told police she felt surrounded and feared for her family’s safety.

Moore’s attorney, Steve Sadow, told said that Moore acted in self-defense on April 23 at Alexander Park. Sadow says Moore acted in defense of two children who were in the car that the victim backed into.

A judge issued a property bond even though the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office did not consent to a bond. Moore is required to surrender weapons to law enforcement as part of his bond conditions, according to the DA’s office.

Moore has been in jail since his arrest on April 23 on aggravated assault and child cruelty charges, among others. He faces seven charges including five felonies and will be required to appear at future court appearances.

In April, the victim said an interview that she hoped Moore would not be released from jail prior to a trial.

“I don’t want this to be taken lightly,” she said, anonymously. “You don’t deserve a slap on the wrist.”
