ATLANTA — The FBI is investigating an apparent data breach involving millions of U.S. driver’s licenses.

The agency says it is looking into reports of a site on the dark web selling digital scans of driver’s licenses belonging to people in the United States and Canada.

The report came from an investigative journalist who says he was alerted to the site after it was advertised on a Russian cybercrime forum.

The journalist says he later discovered his own driver’s license was being used as a free sample on the site.

This is an ongoing investigation.
