Family of man shot by police to hire attorney

Darryl Fuller's family says the man police describe is not the man they know.

"My son was a magnificent child," said his father Darryl Williams. "He loved the people.  He treated people with respect."

Fuller died Wednesday when Gwinnett police say he pulled a gun on a pair of undercover officers patrolling for gangs.

"The officers identified themselves as police officers and then ordered the suspect to drop the gun," said Corporal Jake Smith.

Fuller's fiance, Akira Foster, said he had gon out for a pack of cigarettes.  When he failed to return home, she and other family members went out looking for him.  The found him lying beyond the crime scene tape on Singleton Lane.

"She's seen his shoes and sone of his clothing beside a car in the street," his father said.  "That's how we found out it was him."

Police say they first spotted Fuller in the turn lane.  The gang unit officers patrolling the area stopped to question him.  They say that is when he produced a weapon.  Officers say witnesses will coroborate their account of what happened.

"He was coming home to his baby and me and his family," said Foster.

The family says they plan to hire an attorney.  The officer involved in Fuller's shooting has been placed on administrative leave with pay.  That is standard police practice.
