DEKALB COUNTY, GA — The DeKalb County School District is asking parents and community members to weigh in on how much screen time is appropriate for students.

The district has created a survey to gather feedback on how much screen time parents and community members believe is right for students. The information collected will be used to create guidelines for educators.

“We recognize that technology is an important learning tool but the balance matters, and that’s what we’re looking for, the balance,” district spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo said.

Caracciolo said the district recognizes the role technology plays in the classroom while also considering boundaries on its use.

“We know in Dekalb County Schools that technology is important. It’s important in today’s classrooms, but we also know that there needs to be a balance and balance matters,” Caracciolo said.

“We want technology to enhance learning, not become the learning,” she added.

The survey is available on the district’s website and is open through Sept. 11.
