DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are investigating a deadly shooting at Gardenside Apartments off Fayetteville Road in DeKalb County.

NewsChopper 2 flew over the scene Tuesday and noticed a large police presence.

Police said at around 10:40 a.m. one person was shot during an argument. The victim, described as a man in his early 30s, was taken to a hospital where he died. Police caught a suspect trying to run from the scene. The suspect has not been identified, and police said the investigation is still active.

Channel 2′s Elizabeth Rawlins spoke to neighbors. Deborah Echols said she saw police going after the suspect.

“I said ‘what is going on,’ so I ran to the door, looked outside and saw a young man running, and I heard police say ‘put your hands up,’” Echols said.

A school next door to the apartments released students early out of concerns about potential retaliation.

Police towed two cars from the scene, including one that was left blocking the road.
