Death at Clayton County jail in 2025 ruled a homicide

Clayton County Jail

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA — The death of an inmate at a metro Atlanta area jail in 2025 has officially been ruled a homicide.

The Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office says 57-year-old Scott Worthy died due to medical neglect and uninhabitable living conditions at the jail.

Worthy died last September after suffering from “significant physical deterioration” while in the jail, according to officials.

An autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation found Worthy suffered from a serious bacterial infection.
