ATLANTA — A Cobb County victim has recovered cryptocurrency after losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in an investment scam.
The Georgia Attorney General’s Office says the scammer contacted the victim through social media and claimed to have an “investment opportunity” through a fake cryptocurrency trading platform.
After the victim deposited hundreds of thousands of dollars, the victim was told all of the money had been lost.
Investigators with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s White Collar and Cyber Crime Unit were able to trace a significant portion of the victim’s funds to a cryptocurrency exchange.
The cryptocurrency was ultimately returned to the victim.
