ATLANTA — Cooling centers are opening across metro Atlanta this week as scorching temperatures continue and several counties provide residents with places to escape the heat.
DeKalb County has four cooling centers open through Wednesday, including the Peace Baptist Church Annex off Covington Highway, the South DeKalb Day Center off Flat Shoals Road in Decatur and the Frontline Response Center off Gresham Road in Atlanta.
The county is also providing free rides to the cooling centers through its FAST-TRAC transportation system.
In Clayton County, recreation centers and libraries are serving as cooling centers for residents. The locations will be open from noon to 6:30 p.m.
Cobb County residents can cool off at MUST Ministries through Friday. County libraries are also available as air-conditioned spaces.
Gwinnett County is opening all of its public facilities to help residents stay cool as temperatures remain dangerously high across the area.
