ATLANTA — Atlanta Fire Rescue crews rescued a construction worker after he fell from a ladder inside a city sewer access on Roxboro Road NE.
Officials say the worker fell about 20 feet into the narrow space, which was less than four feet wide, and was unable to get out on his own.
Multiple Atlanta Fire Rescue units responded to the scene. Members of Squad 4 entered the confined space with supplied air and a communication line before securing the worker in a harness.
Crews also monitored the atmosphere and ventilated the space to maintain adequate oxygen levels during the rescue.
Firefighters used a tripod and rope system to lift the worker to the surface. The tripod provided an elevated anchor point for the rescue.
Atlanta Fire Rescue says every member of Squad 4 is certified in confined space rescue, technician-level rope rescue and hazardous materials.
Video released by the department captured crews bringing the worker out of the sewer access.
