ATLANTA — Community members and the family of 8-year-old Secoriea Turner are renewing a push to encourage Rick Jackson to stop running a campaign ad that opponents think exploits the pain of Turner’s family.
Turner was killed during civil unrest in 2020, when Keisha Lance-Bottoms was the mayor of Atlanta.
According to NAACP’s David Means, the tragedy should not be used for political means.
“Out of respect of the family, we ask that you do that,” Means said. “For the wellbeing for all Atlantans who have to watch this horrible advertisement day in and day out.”
Means and other speakers also want media outlets to refuse to air the ad. However, that is not permitted by FCC regulations.
WSB Radio has asked for reaction from Jackson’s campaign, but so far, they have not removed the ad.
