COBB COUNTY, GA — A Cobb County man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing an infant.

Marcel Moreland pleaded guilty to 25 counts including rape, child molestation, incest and sexual exploitation of a child, according to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors say the abuse began when the girl was about a month old and continued until she was six months old.

Moreland also admitted to recording and sharing videos of the abuse, according to prosecutors.

Cobb County District Attorney Sonya F. Allen described the case as involving “crimes that shock the conscience.”

Cobb Superior Court Judge Robert Leonard sentenced Moreland to life without the possibility of parole, plus 490 years.

“This sentence sends a clear message: if you prey upon our children, we will pursue you with every tool the law gives us,” Allen said. “There are crimes that shock the conscience, and the sexual abuse and exploitation of an infant is among the most unimaginable.”

Allen said the child was victimized by someone entrusted to care for her.
