CLAYTON COUNTY, GA — A new crime-fighting unit in Clayton County is already making arrests and seizing illegal drugs and firearms during its first week of operations.

Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen established the R.A.P.T.O.R. Unit, which stands for Rapid Action Patrol and Tactical Operations Response, to target criminal activity throughout the county.

According to Allen, the unit made seven arrests during its first week, including four felony arrests.

Deputies also seized two firearms and more than three pounds of drugs, primarily cocaine.

Allen says the unit was created to take a proactive approach to law enforcement rather than “sit around and wait for crime to happen.”

The sheriff says deputies assigned to R.A.P.T.O.R. will patrol the streets daily, focusing on individuals involved in criminal activity.

Allen says the unit’s early results are intended to send a message that Clayton County will not be a safe haven for criminals.

The sheriff says the unit will continue its efforts to combat crime and improve safety throughout the county.
