Case against man charged with killing a mother and her son to proceed

The double murder case against a Gwinnett County man accused of strangling a mother and her 2-year-old son moves forward after a judge finds there is enough evidence to proceed.

Brandon Williams, 32, sat quietly and showed little emotion as Gwinnett Police Det. Shannon Kulnis described how the bodies of 30-year-old Natalie Nation and her son Cole were discovered by Williams’ father, Austin, in an upstairs bedroom of the home that the four shared on Tybee Drive in Buford.

“At the doorway, he looks in and sees a pile of clothing in the middle of the floor and then he says specifically he sees Cole’s little hand sticking out from the pile,” Kulnis testified.

A family friend shared a series of videos with police that he had taken just hours earlier showing Williams’ bizarre behavior.

“One of the other videos… showed Brandon sitting in front of the television with a Halloween mask on and seemingly talking to the television, and at one point he mentioned the word sacrifice,” she says.

The friend and Austin Williams were both in the driveway when they saw Brandon walk out the front door muttering something and then utter the words “your two”, seemingly speaking to his father. He also said “I’m going to have to burn the house down” as he walked away.

That’s when the elder Williams went inside the home to check on the mother and son and discovered their bodies.

Brandon Williams was arrested by police at a nearby gas station moments later.

Kulnis says he told her he believed the two victims were still alive.

“He said he didn’t understand how he could be charged with murder when Natalie was back alive and at the house,” she testified.

Kulnis says another friend of the victim told police Nation had confided to her that Brandon Williams had strangled her in the past but brought back to life.

Williams’ attorney asked that the case be dismissed saying nothing points to his client as the murderer.

The judge denied the request and bound two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of murder over to Superior Court.
