Braves’ Max Fried pulls out of All-Star Game

The Atlanta Braves have six players selected for baseball’s All-Star Game - five of them first-timers. One of them will not be playing.

Pitcher Max Fried has pulled-out of the Midsummer Classic to be played in Los Angeles Tuesday night. It’s not due to an injury, but because he had a heavy workload in his outing Saturday in Washington D.C.

Fried threw 94 pitches across 7 innings in the Braves’ win over the Nationals. He still gets to attend the All-Star Game.

Milwaukee Brewers’ reliever Devin Williams replaces Fried on the National League’s roster.

The Braves will still have plenty of representation in the dugout for the NL roster on Tuesday - Ronald Acuña, Dansby Swanson, Austin Riley, Travis d’Arnaud and William Contreras. Everyone is a first-time All-Star except for Acuña (who also will participate in Monday’s Home Run Derby).

There’s also manager Brian Snitker leading the NL All-Stars, along with the Braves’ coaching staff.

The Braves’ final game before the All-Star break is Sunday afternoon at Washington, as Atlanta goes for a four-game sweep of the Nationals.
