COWETA COUNTY, GA — An all clear has been given by authorities after a bomb threat investigation at a Georgia Power plant in Coweta County on Monday.

Coweta County 911 received a call from the Georgia Power security team regarding a bomb threat note that was written on the wall of a portable toilet at Plant Yates, located at 708 Dyer Road.

Coweta County 911/Emergency Management Agency officials said Highway 16 was shut down as the investigation continued. Approximately 800 staff and workers were evacuated as a result.

No devices were found at the facility, and public safety officials cleared the potential threat, Coweta County 911/Emergency Management Agency officials said.

Dyer Road was reopened to the public.

A Georgia Power spokesperson released the following statement:

“We place the safety of teams working to build, maintain or operate our facilities first every day. We can confirm that we received reports of threatening language alleging an explosive device onsite posted inside a portable toilet at the Plant Yates construction site this afternoon – we take this very seriously. Workers have evacuated the site and we are working with local authorities to sweep the site to ensure safety before work resumes.”
