Boil water advisories issued for several metro Atlanta communities following water disruptions

Atlanta Boil Water Advisory - 10/11/26

ATLANTA — Residents and businesses in several metro Atlanta communities are under boil water advisories Monday morning following separate water disruptions in Fulton and Cherokee counties.

The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management issued a boil water advisory for Southwest Atlanta, South Fulton, Fairburn and Union City after a water supply interruption affected the Chattahoochee Water Treatment Plant.

Crews and contractors are investigating the disruption at the treatment plant while monitoring water system pressures and operations.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are being advised to use bottled water or boil tap water before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing food, preparing baby formula, making ice or providing water to pets.

Officials recommend bringing water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before allowing it to cool.

The department is also urging additional precautions for vulnerable populations, stating that “infants, the elderly and those with immune deficiencies should be cautious.”

Residents are also advised not to drink from public water fountains in the affected areas.

The advisory will remain in effect until the Department of Watershed Management receives clearance to lift it following required water sampling procedures.

Meanwhile, a separate boil water advisory remains in effect for some residents and businesses in Canton following a water main break Sunday.

The break occurred near Waleska Road, also known as Highway 140, and Marietta Highway/Riverstone Parkway, causing a drop in water pressure.

Although crews have repaired the water main and restored water service, officials are continuing to advise affected customers to boil water before using it for drinking, brushing teeth, washing food, preparing baby formula or providing water to animals.

Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute and allowed to cool before use.

Canton officials say the advisory remains in effect until further notice but is expected to be lifted later Monday.

Both advisories remain in effect Monday morning as officials continue monitoring water conditions in the affected communities.
