ATLANTA — Applications opened Tuesday for Atlanta residents looking to receive up to $1,600 toward the purchase of an electric bike through the city’s e-bike rebate program.

Residents who apply are selected at random after the application window closes. The amount each person can receive is based primarily on income.

“You can type in your income and the number of people in your household to find out which tier or which amount of rebate money you would receive,” Atlanta City Councilmember Matt Westmoreland said.

The program began in 2024 and received 11,000 applications across its fall and spring application periods.

Westmoreland says the program can help residents lower transportation costs while reducing the number of vehicles on Atlanta roads.

“When we take this $1 million, it’s going to help put e-bikes into the hands of hundreds of Atlanta residents, and take hundreds of car trips off the roads,” Westmoreland said.

The Atlanta Regional Commission has a list of participating local bike shops where those selected for a rebate can use the funds.

“It is helping lower transportation costs, it’s helping reduce traffic, it’s good for the environment,” Westmoreland said.

Applications will remain open through Sept. 22. A second application window is scheduled for spring 2027.
