ATLANTA — Thousands of people are expected to converge on Atlanta this Labor Day weekend for all kinds of planned activities, including Dragon Con.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens says the city is prepared to keep everyone safe, with patrols out in force.

“You will see a visible increase in presence of APD and it will be done thoughtfully and strategically in chosen locations across the city,” Dickens said.

In addition to increased patrols along the Atlanta BeltLine, Georgia law enforcement will also be highly visible this weekend, with troopers cracking down on dangerous driving.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety held its own safety meeting Friday, with officials saying Georgia law enforcement will be cracking down on risky driving behavior during the long holiday weekend.

Authorities across the state will be looking for drunk and distracted drivers, as well as speeders and seat belt violators, as roads become more crowded for the holiday.

More than 2.3 million travelers are also expected to pass through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport during the holiday travel period, officials said.
