ATLANTA — The City of Atlanta’s E-911 services are fully restored after technical issues knocked the system offline for hours Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

The outage affected the city’s ability to receive and dispatch emergency calls. During the disruption, operators moved to the Fulton County Emergency Communications Center to handle calls while technicians worked to restore service.

At one point, people with urgent needs were told they could go directly to a hospital, police precinct or fire station.

“We know that there was a technical issue that arose prior to the system failure, so that gave us time to go into our contingency operations,” Atlanta E-911 Executive Director Desiree Arnold said.

The system has since returned to full operation.

“Everything is up and operational, and if you call 911 someone will answer, we will dispatch medical, police, and fire resources to you,” Arnold said.

Officials have not said exactly what caused the technical issue. Arnold said the outage was not the result of a hacking operation.
