FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — Two people are in custody and a shelter in place order has been lifted after a standoff in Forsyth County on Tuesday.

Authorities responded to the area of Kelly Mill Road between Johnson Road and Barrett Downs Drive after reports of shots fired around 8:30 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies were informed that bullets “penetrated their child’s bedroom in a neighboring house.”

As a result, a shelter in place request was sent out to nearby residents.

Deputies determined shots were fired at a car during the dispute. A vehicle was recovered and deputies say a female informed them that the victim James Treadwell, left the scene.

He was later found off of Buford Dam Road and Nuckolls Road and later arrested for outstanding warrants from Henry County.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded, including Hall County SO, GA Department of Corrections, Cherokee County SO, Johns Creek PD, Dawson County SO, and North Fulton SWAT.

Around 2 p.m., a citizen informed authorities that they saw movement in her back yard. Cherokee and Forsyth K9 teams immediately responded to the scene and tracked down a man identified as Jason Simmons.

Authorities say he was taken into custody and is being interviewed by Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit. He faces Aggravated Assault charges, with additional charges likely, officials add.

“This individual endangered the lives of multiple citizens today. He will answer for his actions in front of a Forsyth County jury,” according to Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman. “I extend my sincere appreciation to all of the agencies who assisted FCSO today and for their continued dedication and partnership in keeping our communities safe. I am truly proud of the dedication of our FCSO Deputies who were not leaving the scene without this suspect being taken into custody”
