Triple Crown: 95.5 WSB wins trio of Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards

“To be persuasive we must be believable; to be believable we must be credible; credible we must be truthful.” - Edward Murrow

The Radio Television Digital News Association has announced the 2021 RTDNA Regional Murrow Award recipients. Among the many outstanding news organizations recognized, 95.5 WSB has been honored in three different categories.

North Carolina native Edward R. Murrow, namesake of the eponymously titled award series, was heralded as a brilliant broadcast journalist in his day. Having made a name for himself reporting for CBS during World War II, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and multiple Peabody Award recipient would go on to inspire the Edward R. Murrow Award delivered by the Radio Television Digital News Association today.

With that in mind, 95.5 WSB has been awarded the 2021 Regional Murrow Award for “Breaking News Coverage,” “News Series” and “Sports Reporting.” Beckoning back to Edward Murrow himself, “Difficulty is the excuse history never accepts.”

Winning the 2021 Regional Murrow Award for “Breaking News Coverage,” 95.5 WSB Radio’s coverage of the Atlanta unrest that followed the death of George Floyd was helmed by the WSB Radio News Team with excellence.

Winning the 2021 Regional Murrow Award for “News Series,” 95.5 WSB reporter Chris Chandler’s “Coronavirus: Where Georgia Stands” broke down the biggest in national and local news concerning COVID-19 just as the pandemic was making headlines. Chandler’s “Coronavirus: Where Georgia Stands” has since featured several episodes, each covering the latest in coronavirus news.

While 2020 may be forever mired by the pandemic, sports lived on through the hardship. 95.5 WSB was present for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Atlanta. And, its coverage has earned the 2021 Regional Murrow Award for “Sports Reporting.”

To make the understatement of a lifetime, it has been an eventful 12 months. And, 95.5 WSB and its award winning WSB Radio News Team have been here reporting it every step of the way. For that, congratulations to the WSB Radio News Team for another year of hard work and prestigious reporting.
