FAIRBURN, GA — An 8-week-old baby is safely back with his mother after Fulton County police say the child’s father left with the infant following an alleged physical assault.
Police were called to the Fulton County Elections Hub off Campbellton-Fairburn Road for a report of a physical altercation in progress.
When officers arrived, county employee Tatyana Fernander told police she had been physically assaulted by Richard Benton, the father of her 8-week-old son. She told officers Benton had left with the baby and her cellphone.
An officer was able to contact Benton while he was on the highway and advised him to get off the road and make sure the baby was safe.
Benton stopped at the College Park MARTA station, where officers recovered the infant and took Benton into custody without incident.
Police say the baby is safe and has been reunited with his mother.
Charges against Benton are pending.
