COWETA COUNTY, GA — A 19-year-old faces charges after being accused of attacking a high school student at a cross-country meet in metro Atlanta on Saturday morning.

Newnan police officers responded to the area of 56 Sewell Rd. just before 8 a.m. after reports of an assault.

Police officials say they were informed that a suspect wearing an East Coweta High School cross country jersey emerged from the woods, ran towards the victim, pushed him and struck him with his fists.

Officials say the victim defended himself and the suspect ran into the woods.

A short time later, officials say the suspect, identified as Aiden Dombrowski, turned himself into police in a nearby parking lot.

“He had changed clothes, but the East Coweta jersey was located inside his vehicle in the parking lot,” Newnan police officials said.

After being arrested, Dombrowski was taken to the Coweta County Jail where he was was charged with battery.

Police officials say he is not a student at East Coweta High School.
