Cross-dressing bank robber strikes in Marietta

It looks like a Marietta bank robber started dressing up for Halloween a few hours too early.

The bank robber was wearing a woman’s outfit; a skirt, sunglasses, short boots and a shoulder-length black wig. But the suspect was only pretending to a woman to fool police. Marietta police say they have a cross-dressing bank robber on their hands.

Police told WSB the suspect walked into the BB&T Bank in the 1900 block of Sandy Plains Road about 1 p.m. Monday and slipped a teller a note. The man told the teller he had a gun and wanted money, Officer David Baldwin said.

The cross-dresser was seen running in his boots behind the bank. Police say they don’t know how much money he got away with. But it was the running part that gave away the suspect’s disguise.

"He ran like a man when he left the bank," Officer Baldwin said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Marietta Police Department at 770-794-5300, Detective Michael Freer at 770-794-5477 or the Marietta tip line at 770-794-6990.
