Man convicted in UGA student’s 2001 murder awaits sentencing

ATHENS, GA — The man convicted of raping and killing University of Georgia law student Tara Baker 25 years ago is awaiting his sentencing in a Clarke County courtroom on Thursday.

Victim statements are being heard, including a written statement read by Baker’s mother, who appeared distraught in court.

50-year-old Edrick Faust was linked to the crime in 2024 after extensive DNA testing. Earlier this week, a jury found him guilty on all counts.

The sentencing marked the conclusion of a case that spanned more than two decades, with investigators finally securing the DNA evidence that tied him to the crime.
