Hood to get money for his defense

Accused Athens cop-killer Jamie Hood gets his way in court.

Hood now represents himself in the capital murder case.  A Clarke County Superior Court judge grants his motions for money to hire his own experts, including a psychiatrist.

Hood fought his defense team when they sought to get his head examined, but now he wants an evaluation.

The judge grants the indigent Hood money for an investigator and ballistics expert.  Hood contends the gun used to kill Senior Police Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian and wound his partner in 2011 is not the one he allegedly used in a previous murder.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports Judge H. Patrick Haggard refused money for a so-called "attitudinal studies" expert.  Hood continues to lobby to import a jury for trial, although that motion was denied.
