Making holiday travel plans? Clark Howard has advice for you

As you get ready to make travel plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas, Mother Nature may impact your travel plans.

WSB Consumer Expert Clark Howard says there are things you need to know.

He says, "Never book the last flight of the day." If there is a flight disruption, you will not be able to get another flight out that same day.

If you book an earlier flight, you will have a better chance of getting on another flight. If your flight is canceled you have the right to a refund if you do not come up with another way to get to where you are going.

Howard says if your flight is impacted with weather or mechanical issues, always be nice to whomever you are dealing with. "You get so much more with sugar than you do with vinegar, but don't be a pushover either," says Howard.

When buying tickets, keep in mind that flights during the last few weeks of December can cost up to 75 percent more, but if you book at the right time, you can save yourself hundreds.
