Many metro school districts cancel Monday classes ahead of possible icy conditions

ATLANTA — Many metro Atlanta school districts have announced closings for Monday, ahead of potentially icy road conditions in the morning.

Banks, Bartow, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Paulding, Pickens,  and Rockdale county school districts  say there will not be class on Monday.  Atlanta Public Schools are closed on Monday, as are Calhoun, Carrollton, Cartersville, Decatur, Gainesville, and Marietta city school systems.   Kennesaw State is closed for classes on Monday.

Most of north Georgia, including metro Atlanta, is in line for scattered areas of freezing rain in the morning hours.

The National Weather Service Atlanta office issued a winter weather advisory for the region, to go into effect 1 a.m. Monday, extending to 1 p.m. Light freezing rain is expected in some areas, with accumulations of 1/10 of an inch expected. The changeover to rain would happen later in the afternoon.
