Second warmest February on record for Atlanta

The monthly average temperature in Atlanta was nearly 9 degrees above average.

February 2023 marks the second warmest February on record for Atlanta, as afternoon temperatures soared into the 70s and 80s for nearly half of the month.

In fact, Atlanta recorded its warmest February day of all time on February 22 when the thermometer reached 81 degrees that afternoon. It broke the previous all time highest temperature of 80 degrees, which occurred on February 7, 2019.

Be aware that even with the unusually warm conditions this early in the year, a spring freeze is still possible in March and April. The average final spring freeze for the Atlanta area is March 23, though the latest on record occurred on April 25, 1910.

The average monthly temperature for February 2023 was 57.1 degrees, which is 8.6 degrees above average. This means February 2023 is in second place for the warmest February on record for Atlanta.

And this is after a Top 10 warmest January for Atlanta! As a result, this year Meteorological Winter (defined as December 1 through February 28/29) is tied for 4th place as the warmest Meteorological Winter on record.
